Protect the children in our community by observing our 20 mph speed limit.

Snow Removal

No person shall park, abandon, or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street, alley, or City-owned off street parking area during the time snow or ice begins to accumulate through the duration of the snow or ice storm unless the snow or ice has been removed or plowed from said street, alley, or parking area and the snow or ice has ceased to fall. The ban shall be enforced whenever the parking of a vehicle interferes with the removal of snow or ice. If the owner of a vehicle in violation of this ban fails to promptly remove such vehicle, the vehicle will receive a citation and a towing service will be contacted for the purpose of removing said vehicle at the owner’s expense.

Our streets are plowed by part time employees and volunteers. If your vehicle is parked so that the street cannot be plowed it maybe 24 hours or more before someone is available to plow again.

The city does not hire anyone to remove snow from around fire hydrants. It is your responsibility to make sure that the nearest hydrant to your home is not obstructed by snow. Also remember that some of your neighbors may not be able to shovel snow so if you can, please do it. Who knows the house you save, may be your own.

Trees / Branches extend over road

City Ordinance 6-8-4 (a) requires home owners to trim trees or plantings so that they shall not cause a hazard to the public or block public walks or ways or interfere with proper lighting of public streets or places. The minimum clearance for any overhanging portion shall be eight (8) feet over walks and fourteen (14) feed above the surface of the traveled portion of the street.

A hazard includes branches that hide road signs and street name markers. If the home owner does not trim them, the city council can hire a tree trimmer, with the work billed to the home owner.

Parking

The minimum width of the cities street right of way is 66 feet. On all streets other than Main St between 1ST St and 3rd St only enough of the right-of-way is paved to allow two vehicles to pass each other safely. This width does not allow for parking on the paved portion of the street at any time. The street right of way extends some distance from the paved portion of the street. Vehicles may be parked overnight on the street right-of-way if they are completely off the paved portion of the street. During a snow emergency they must be three (3) or more feet from the paved portion of the street. This distance is required to allow for the safe removal of snow and to prevent damage to your vehicle.

Load Restrictions / Truck Routes

Every motor vehicle weighing five tons or more, when loaded or empty, having no fixed terminal within the City or making no schedule or definite stops within the City for the purpose of loading or unloading, shall travel only on Main Street and 6th Street.

Any motor vehicle weighing four tons or more, when loaded or empty, having a fixed terminal, making a scheduled or definite stop within the City for the purpose of loading or unloading, shall proceed to the nearest point of its scheduled or definite stop and shall proceed thereto, load or unload and return, by the most direct route to its point of departure from the designated route.

The owner, or any other person, employing or otherwise directing the driver of any vehicle shall not require or knowingly permit the operation of such vehicle upon a street in any manner contrary to this section.

Bicycles on Sidewalks

No person shall ride a bicycle on a sidewalk within a business district.

When signs are erected on a sidewalk or roadway prohibiting the riding of bicycles on the sidewalk or roadway, no person shall disobey such signs.

Whenever a person is riding a bicycle upon a sidewalk, the person shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian and shall give a timely audible signal before overtaking and passing a pedestrian.
