The Hanlontown Fire Department was first organized in 1901 as the Hanlontown Hook and Ladder Company, and was staffed by volunteers with ladders and buckets. Their only responsibility was to extinguish fires within the city. Today, the Hanlontown Fire Department is an ISO Class 6 fire department (best rated fire department in Worth County) and is still staffed with volunteers. But, in addition to fire protection,  they provide emergency medical services and technical rescue services for a fifty five square mile fire district in Worth and Cerro Gordo Counties. The fire department meets at 7:00 p.m. on the the second tuesday of the month.
